Welcome to Healthy Boundaries & Assertiveness Counseling: Empowering You to Thrive
I'm Lonette, a Licensed Psychotherapist who specializes in helping people learn how to set healthy boundaries and assert themselves. I believe that everyone deserves to live a life free from unnecessary stress and conflict. Whether you’re struggling to say “no,” feeling overwhelmed by others’ demands, or finding it hard to express your true feelings, my goal is to help you find your voice and establish the boundaries you need to thrive. I provide individual therapy for adults age 18 - 65, and relationship therapy for couples and family members.
How I Can Help You
Many clients who struggle with boundary-setting and assertive communication report feelings of depression, anxiety, and poor self-esteem. They often feel misunderstood, ignored, disrespected, and taken advantage of. I understand the profound impact these challenges can have on your well-being.
My personalized approach is designed to address these issues head-on. Through compassionate and collaborative therapy, we will:
Explore Underlying Factors: Uncover the root causes of your difficulties by delving into your thoughts, emotions, and past experiences.
Gain Insight: Develop a deeper understanding of your personal patterns and triggers, empowering you to make informed changes.
Overcome Obstacles: Identify and tackle the barriers that prevent you from setting healthy boundaries and asserting yourself confidently.
Develop Practical Strategies: Create actionable plans and techniques to foster lasting change, improve your self-esteem, and enhance your overall quality of life.
I utilize an integrative therapeutic approach which incorporates techniques from:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Psychodynamic Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
My Style as a Therapist
As a therapist, my approach is grounded in empathy, respect, and collaboration. I believe in creating a supportive and understanding environment where you can feel safe to express yourself.
Here’s what you can expect from me as a therapist:
Empathetic Listening: I prioritize creating a safe and non-judgmental space where you feel heard and understood. Your experiences and feelings are valid, and I am here to listen with compassion and genuine interest.
Active Engagement: I’m an active therapist and you can expect me to ask lots of questions. By engaging with you in meaningful conversations, I aim to help you clarify your goals and needs. My questions are designed to provoke thought, encourage self-reflection, and guide you towards deeper insights.
Plain and Simple Communication: In sessions, I speak simply and plainly, leaving all the fancy jargon in grad school where it belongs. My goal is to ensure that you fully understand our discussions and feel comfortable with the therapeutic process. Clear and straightforward communication is key to effective therapy.
Gentle and Respectful Confrontation: There are times when gentle and respectful confrontation is necessary to address behaviors or patterns that may be hindering your progress. I approach these moments with care and sensitivity, ensuring that they are constructive and aimed at fostering growth and understanding.
Focus on Practical Outcomes: While exploring underlying issues is important, I also emphasize practical strategies that you can implement in your daily life. Together, we will develop actionable plans to help you achieve lasting change. My aim is to provide you with tools and techniques that you can use outside of our sessions to navigate life’s challenges effectively.
Collaborative Approach: Therapy is a partnership. We will work together to identify your goals, explore challenges, and develop strategies that align with your values and aspirations. Your input is vital to the therapeutic process, and I encourage you to actively participate in shaping your therapy experience.
